WWE Has An Offer For Ronda Rousey

Former UFC women’s bantamweight division champion, Ronda Rousey is set to make her long-awaited return to the Octagon against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December. However, she also said a few days ago she is close to retirement. Rousey hasn’t fought since she lost for the first time ever via brutal knockout to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

After her loss, it was unclear whether she would ever return. We now know she will, but even if she wins back her title against Nunes on December 30 she doesn’t intend to hang around for long. Earlier this week, Ronda Rousey talked about her plans for the future on the Ellen show:

“This is definitely one of my last fights, so everyone better watch. The show is not going to be around forever.”

And it sounds like those words were music to the ears of WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, who wasted no time in declaring her interest in one of the biggest names in US sport. McMahon is a minority owner in the pro wrestling promotion, and she recently told TMZ that they are very interested in acquiring Rousey after she hangs up the gloves.

“God, I certainly hope so. I gotta get her back from when she put me in that armbar. I’m certainly going to try (to sign her), I’ll just leave it at that.”

Rousey made her one and only WWE appearance on the biggest stage at Wrestlemania 31 in 2015. Rousey appeared alongside The Rock and performed a judo throw on Triple H. After that, she used her signature move on Stephanie McMahon.

This is not the first time WWE has tried to sign an esteemed UFC fighter. They were keen to have 22-year-old strawweight Paige VanZant appear at SummerSlam last year but failed to close the deal.
