Now that it has been confirmed by Dana White and other multiple sources, Khabib Nurmagomedov will face Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 for the UFC interim lightweight championship. The undisputed champion Conor McGregor is taking time off at least until the summer because his long-time girlfriend Dee Devlin is expecting a child and McGregor does not want to put any stress on her at this time and wants to spend some time with his family.
Ferguson had his reservations to fight Nurmagomedov at first because he was not offered enough money in the first place. It is not confirmed if he was offered more this time, but he has now officially signed the contract. UFC 209 takes place March, 4th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson will serve as the co-main event and the Woodley vs. Thompson rematch for the welterweight championship will be the main event of the evening.
Confirmed Ferguson-Nurmagomedov set for UFC 209. The saga is over. Everyone seems happy. Story coming shortly. H/t @latimespugmire.
