Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson is on a nine-fight winning streak and is probably living the best moment of his MMA career. Next month, on March 4th he will have the opportunity to go home with a UFC belt, across the cage from him will be Khabib Nurmagomedov who is undefeated as a professional and is 8-0 in the UFC. The winner will take home the UFC interim lightweight belt and will earn the right to fight Conor McGregor to unify the title.
For many, including both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov, this is the real fight for the belt, as the two fighters believe whoever wins their match will go on to beat the Irishman, or, would become the undisputed champion if McGregor moves on to boxing, to another division, or retires.
There is animosity between the two top contenders but they actually have a lot of respect for each other’s skills, and they understand how dangerous the fight can be.
(For that reason, Tony Ferguson is taking his conditioning to extreme lengths as you can see on the video on the next page)
