Nate Diaz is one of the most underrated fighters in MMA, granted, he gained a lot of fame and new fans after defeating Conor McGregor on short notice at UFC 196, but Diaz had been paving his way for a long time before McGregor ever appeared into scene.
On a recent appearance on CSN Fights with Andre Ward alongside his training partner and long-time friend Gilbert ‘El Niño’ Melendez, Nate talked about he doesn’t turn down fights and how he won’t be beaten by the UFC in the negotiations.
When the numbers came in for UFC 196, he knew the promotion would try to book an immediate rematch against Conor McGregor. After disposing of the Irish with a perfect submission, there was nothing left to prove for Nate, but there was a lot of money to be made.
“As far as business goes, you get what they want. They needed the rematch to happen. I didn’t need that rematch to happen.”
