Middleweight champion Michael Bisping was rumored to make a second defense in the main event of UFC 208 against Yoel Romero. However, none of that came to fruition as the champion is set to have surgery to take care of a nagging injury and is planning to return to action in the end of the spring.
Yoel Romero spoke to the media recently and emphasized that he doesn’t mind waiting for the champion to return. Romero is convinced that his next fight will be for the belt, whenever that may actually happen.
As we know, originally Bisping said he wouldn’t fight Romero because of his problems with USADA. Then when Romero called him out after beating Chris Weidman at UFC 205 Bisping technically agreed to the bout. Now, well, things could be a little different once again. Michael Bisping gave an interview to Champion.co in which he talked about his medical status and the plans for the sugery, as well as about what are the plans for his next fight.
“First and foremost, I am still UFC middleweight champion of the world. I have to defend that belt, simple as that. Dana actually contacted me and spoke about a fight recently but I’ve been having a lot of issues with my knee so I’ve got to have a knee surgery. Maybe around end of April, May something like that, I’ll take a fight.”
