Grappling sensation and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Mackenzie Dern returns to the cage tonight at Legacy Fighting Alliance 6 in San Antonio, Texas.
Unfortunately for the Brazilian, making 115 pounds has proven to be very difficult for her body as she has missed weight in two of her three professional MMA fights to date.
Dern will fight Katherine Roy, the bout was set to be at 115 pounds, but due to Mackenzie’s failure to make weight, the fight has been shifted to a catchweight at 120 pounds, as first reported by MMA Fighting.
Dern missed weight for her last bout against Montana Stewart at Legacy FC 61. She tipped the scales at 118.8 pounds that time. For this fight against Roy, Dern couldn’t attempt the strawweight limit of 116 pounds and actually failed to make the 120-pound cutoff on the first attempt, weighing in at 121.8 pounds. She would make the 120-pound limit on the second try. In missing weight, Dern will forfeit 20 percent of her purse to her opponent.
