Canadian superstar Georges St-Pierre is a future Hall of Famer, there is no questioning that. Now that he announced he will get back into the octagon this year, after 3 years away from MMA, what is being questioned is in what condition will he return.
Many people doubt we will be able to see the old GSP who was a cardio machine ready to go the distance in any fight. Now, at age 35, the fact that he hasn’t been doing training camps regularly must have had an effect on his body and his conditioning.
However, we can’t forget that this is the same man who defended his welterweight belt nine times. The same fighter who defeated big names like Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, BJ Penn and Matt Hughes. Granted, he won eight of those nine defenses by decision and many people accuse him of not being able to finish fights or having a boring style, but there’s no denying the man is a legend.
In a video released by Hayabusa, one of GSP long time sponsors, ‘Rush’ is asked why come back now? You can watch GSP’s response on the video on the next page.
