UFC Fight Week 2017 Headlined by Two Events in Vegas; TUF 25 and UFC 213
The UFC has announced that it will hold back-to-back events on July 7-8, 2017; with The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale set to take place on Friday and UFC 213 topping off International Fight Week on Saturday.
Historically, the UFC has held three events in three days over Fourth of July weekend. While that appears to still be the plan for 2017 as well, we’ve learned that the UFC had requested a trio of dates (July 6-8) for T-Mobile Arena at last month’s Nevada Athletic Commission meeting. However, the final number was trimmed, with the addition of the UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony taking the place of a July 6th event. A bummer for some fans, but an exciting time for those who have been following MMA and the UFC promotion for a long while.
The traditional UFC Fan Expo has also now been replaced by a “fully interactive two-day UFC Fan Experience” on July 7-8, 2017 taking place at the Toshiba Plaza and “The Park” outside of T-Mobile Arena; marking the first International Fight Week to be staged under the WME-IMG era.
For The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale, we are still unsure of what fights will take place as no bookings have been announced. We assume it will be hosted on Fox Sports 1, like all other TUF showings.
At UFC 213, the UFC welterweight championship will be on the line when Robbie Lawler faces Donald Cerrone. Two heavyweight fights are also slated: Travis Browne vs. Oleksiy Oliynyk and Fabricio Werdum vs. Alistair Overeem.
