Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson is just one more in a very long list of fighters who dislike UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. The #2 ranked lightweight is bound to fight for the interim title against #1 ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov on March 4 at UFC 209 in the co-main event of the evening.
Ferguson has said during his 9-win streak that he has his sight set on the belt and doesn’t care who he fights for it or when. That has become more real as even with the interim belt he would still have to wait for the champion to return during the summer or later in the year.
Ferguson is confident on beating Khabib for the interim belt -which he claims it’s the real one considering the streaks of both fighters and how little he thinks of McGregor. Both in terms of his skills inside the octagon as well as for the fact that he has never defended any of the belts he has won.
Let’s not forget that Conor McGregor held both the featherweight and lightweight titles under Cage Warriors but never made a defense of either title. As we know, McGregor then moved on to the UFC where he won the featherweight title and almost a year later became the first fighter in UFC history to hold belts in two divisions simultaneously.
