The World Of Mixed Martial Arts Responds To Meryl Streep

The Ceremony for the Golden Globes 2017 took place on Sunday and its highest point was a speech by American actress Meryl Streep. She received the Cecil B. DeMille award, and launched a fiery acceptance speech taking aim at Donald Trump (expected) and finished by taking a shot at MMA (completely unexpected).

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if we kick them all out you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”

Yes, she may say that she meant it as a joke or that it was just a comment to emphasize a point. The reality is she had just criticized Donald Trump for being judgemental and seconds later she did exactly the same.

Bellator president Scott Coker sent Meryl an open letter defending why the sport should be considered art. He also invited her to attend Bellator 170.
