Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s biggest female star Mackenzie Dern is set to return to the cage this Friday for Legacy Fighting Alliance. During the interviews ahead of the fight, she spoke to Sherdog about Ronda Rousey, who, for many, is supposed to be the icon every female fighter looked up to in their early years.
For Dern, this was not exactly the case, as she does recognize Ronda’s merits but never really clicked with her personality and doesn’t consider her an inspiration because of her personality.
“I definitely didn’t look up to Ronda. Maybe it was just the personality part of it. I just never really connected with that type of personality. I’ve never met her in person, so I really don’t know how she is. She definitely opened the doors for women. When I saw everything that she was able to accomplish with her skills and everything else, it made me think that I could do this.”
