Grappling sensation and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Mackenzie Dern returned to the cage tonight at Legacy Fighting Alliance 6 and improved her MMA record to 3-0.
Dern fought Katherine Roy and defeated her by unanimous decision, in a bout that was originally booked at 115 pounds, but due to Mackenzie’s failure to make weight, had to be shifted to a catchweight at 120 pounds.
Dern has a history of missing weight or struggling to make it. At 5’3″ the typical thick complexion of Brazilian women might be playing against her when trying to lose those last few pounds to be able to fight as a strawweight.
Perhaps it’s time for Mackenzie to embrace her body and keep training so she can improve her striking skills to have a chance to compete for the title at flyweight.
