As MMA becomes a more mainstream sport, MMA fighters are presented with more opportunities outside the cage. The most common transition for fighters (not related to fighting: coaching, managing, commentating, analyzing) seems to be acting. Many UFC champions and legends have appeared in dozens of movies.
Some of the movies are really good, like “Warrior”, where the youngest son of a former boxer who is now a recovered alcoholic returns home to be trained by his father to compete in a mixed martial arts tournament. In the tournament he collides with his brother Brendan, a former MMA fighter who is unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, who returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. This 2011 classic features Nate Marquardt, Anthony Johnson, Rashad Evans, Stephan Bonnar and Yves Edwards. The movie also features Joel Edgerton, and Oscar nominated actors Nick Nolte and Tom Hardy.
(Other movies didn’t get as much attention but are worth watching, like the 2 on the next page)
