Floyd Mayweather appeared in ESPN’s First Take this week and made a few interesting remarks. The undefeated boxer actually opened the door to fighting Conor McGregor. He even stated that his team has tried to make the fight happen and they actually made a millionaire offer to ‘The Notorious’.
“The only thing that I’m probably interested in… is the Conor McGregor fight. I’m a business man and it makes more business sense.”
Talk about the fight has been circulating for over a year. It is undeniable the fight would have the potential to be the biggest PPV event in history, but it is also highly unlikely the match will ever be made.
Most people believe it is all just a publicity stunt from both men and they have no real desire to fight. However, the same skeptical people would probably be eager to watch McGregor and Mayweather trade punches and would pay to do so.
When the rumors started, Floyd was quick to say it was all a publicity stunt from Conor. Now he claims he has tried to get McGregor to agree to fight him.
“We tried to make the Conor McGregor fight. They know what my number is. My number was a guaranteed $100 million. I don’t really know how much money he has made before. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t even made $10 million in an MMA bout but we are willing to give him $15 million and then we can talk about splitting the percentage, the back-end percentage on pay-per-view, but of course we’re the A-side.”
“How can a guy talk about $20 million or $30 million if he’s never even made $8 million or $9 million? Conor McGregor keeps telling everybody he wants the fight. Let’s make it happen!”
We can be sure Conor McGregor has seen the interview and was not happy about it. He used Twitter to get his answer out and he may have crossed the line with Floyd.
