UFC 205 was 10 days ago and we are still hearing about it. Conor McGregor made UFC history by defeating Eddie Alvarez and becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two belt simultaneously.
It was something that had never been done before inside the Octagon. However for future UFC Hall of Famer Dan Henderson, McGregor’s reign as two-division champion will be a short one.
“I think that kid that fought last weekend, I have trouble with his name, Magomedov, the Russian kid, that’s at 155 — I think he would definitely give Conor a huge problem. I think he definitely would take him down and beat the piss out of him.” Said Henderson on The Adam Carolla Show, referring to undefeated lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib made a statement at UFC 205 dominating lightweight contender Michael Johnson. The Russian looked unstoppable when viciously beating Michael Johnson with ground-and-pound. Nurmagomedov even took the time to talk to Michael Johnson and UFC president Dana White while doing it.
Khabib or Ferguson?
The performance may have earned Nurmagomedov the first shot at McGregor as lightweight champion. Closing in on him is Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson, who also had a great performance this month. Ferguson destroyed former champion Rafael Dos Anjos in Mexico City just one week before UFC 205. However, the UFC seems decided to lean in favor of the Russian. Rumors say the promotion is considering doing the fight in Russia in the summer of 2017.
Dan Henderson went on to admit that he is starting to take Conor McGregor seriously.
“I don’t dislike him. I think it took me a while to kinda get onboard with him, just to see a little bit more well-roundedness. He’s always shown that he’s got good hands, good kicks. But to see him against a couple different wrestlers that had good hands, it took me awhile to get onboard with him. I think Eddie just did not fight a smart fight whatsoever. He didn’t use his wrestling whatsoever.”
