There is an old saying that states a fighter’s first foe is the scale. Some fighters have been defeated by that rival more than a few times and even in spectacular fashion. Weight cutting is part of the process during camp.
Occasionally some fighters fail miserably when trying to reach their goal. Today alone two Brazilian fighters missed weight ahead of their scheduled bouts in Mexico City. So the time is right to remember eight of the biggest weight cut losers in UFC history:
Charles Oliveira (4 times)
Charles Oliveira stepped on the scale weighing 155 pounds. Championship weight for a lightweight bout… the problem is he is scheduled to fight Ricardo Lamas at featherweight.
This is the fourth time the Brazilian misses weight. He missed weight by 0.2 pounds vs Cub Swanson. By 0.5 vs Jeremy Stephens. Then by 4.5 pounds vs Miles Jury last year. At 9 pounds over this is Oliveira’s biggest fail to date. Perhaps a sign that is finally time to accept he needs to move up to lightweight.
