MMA legend and future UFC Hall of Fame inductee Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva was on Combate News in his country of Brazil and during his interview he expressed the changes he sees in the UFC since WME-IMG bought the company for over four billion dollars.
“I think they just took a big risk because the face of the UFC was always Dana and Lorenzo. When you don’t have Dana and Lorenzo, the good cop and the bad cop, it’s kind of up in the air. But let’s be positive. I believe everything will be alright.”
Anderson tries to think positive but he thinks the UFC is slowly becoming more about entertainment and less about fighting. For well established names like himself, who has popularity all around the world, this shouldn’t be an issue. However Silva worries about the possible effects to the careers of other athletes like his friend Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
“It’s a company that is worried about entertainment. It’s not a company with a history in martial arts, the philosophy of the fight. That’s one of the reasons why ‘Jacare’ is not fighting for the title because, for them, it’s not something profitable, that will bring the entertainment they need.”
